This fashion industry is tough! There is no handbook, no guide. And unless you’ve been in the industry for awhile, it’s nearly impossible to figure out where to start. I have no background in business, fashion, or marketing. I was a doctor, for cryin’ out loud! We practically don’t even know how to balance a checkbook. (They should have had a home economics class in medical school, but they didn’t. We were too busy dissecting human bodies and learning the Kreb’s Cycle).
When I originally had the idea for this clothing line, I had no idea it would become my new career. But, nevertheless, here we are. And it’s fun!! But the process involves about 100 ways to mess it up at every stage. I honestly don’t understand how some start-ups become successful.
All my life, I’ve heard that if you ever come up with a new idea that solves a problem, you should run with it. As my friends and family know, I’m not the type of person to do anything halfway. I have 2 speeds: “Stop” and “Full speed ahead,” for better or for worse. Sorry, mom and dad :).
I work hard, like all of us, and at the end of the day, I really really really do not want to wear a bra. Bras make me cranky and uncomfortable. Around 6pm, I’m ready to burn the thing! Enter....McCarron Designs. I have 5 teenagers in my house, along with their 5 boyfriends and girlfriends. I got tired of scrambling to find my “puffy vest” or robe or blanket every time they came through the house in the late evenings while I was trying to watch my latest Netflix favorite.
So one day, I was unloading the dryer, and out popped all of these foam inserts for the girls‘ sports bras. And I had an epiphany! Why can’t we incorporate these inserts into pajama tops? I wanted to have a pair of pj’s made just for me from a local seamstress, but the more I talked to people about my idea, the more I got that wide-eyed look of “Oh my gosh, why doesn’t this already exist?!”
So I was hooked. Lots of innovative, fun, and flattering styles to come!!! Stay tuned....
